Chashme Baddoor is a 2013 Hindi slapstick comedy film directed by David Dhawan and written by Sajid and Farhad Samji. It is an official remake of the 1981 film Chashme Buddoor, which was directed by Sai Paranjpye and starred Farooq Shaikh, Deepti Naval, Saeed Jaffrey, Rakesh Bedi and Ravi Baswani. The plot revolves around three friends, Siddharth, Omi and Jai, who live in a rented apartment in Goa. They are frequent visitors to a cafe owned by Joseph Furtado, who also happens to be their landlord's brother. The three friends are always in debt to Joseph and his sister Josephine, who is their landlady. One day, they see a new girl in their neighborhood, Seema, who is the niece of their landlord's twin brother Chandrakant. Omi and Jai try to impress her with their tricks, but fail miserably. Siddharth, on the other hand, meets her by chance and falls in love with her. Omi and Jai, who are jealous of Siddharth's relationship with Seema, plot to break them up and also to take revenge on Seema for humiliating them. They create misunderstandings between Siddharth and Seema, and also involve Seema's father Suryakant, who is an army officer and wants her to marry an armyman. However, they later realize their mistake and try to reunite the lovers. In the meantime, Seema gets kidnapped by a real gang of criminals, who are behind a series of kidnappings in Goa. Siddharth, Omi and Jai team up with Joseph and Chandrakant to rescue Seema and expose the kidnappers.
The film was released on 5 April 2013 and received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Some praised the film for its entertainment value and performances, while others criticized it for being a poor remake of the original film. The film was a moderate success at the box office, earning 50 crores against a budget of 20 crores.
